There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen. ~Rumi
We all have the capacity to engage with the wisdom within to move in a deeply meaningful direction through life’s transitions. Our intention at San Diego Psychotherapy is to help guide you through that process. Whether it be a career or relationship challenge, anxiety over the future, regret about the past, loneliness, confusion, fear, stress, grief, or sadness, pausing and gaining a deeper understanding is key to emerging with wisdom, balance, clarity, and purpose.
This is where mindfulness comes in. Gentle focus is placed on present moment experience (thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and bodily sensations). From this perspective, curiosity and compassion are employed to elucidate life choices.
We understand that pain can feel all-encompassing, like being submerged under a giant wave. Coming up for air can seem a long way off, especially when the momentum of life takes over. Change can be scary. Like the lotus flower (“No mud; no lotus”) we can learn the necessary tools to overcome adversity.
With over 20 years of combined experience at the University of California, San Diego, the Veteran’s Administration hospitals, in research, and in private practice, Dr. Shea has specialized in treating stress, anxiety, depression, weight, eating, body image, grief, trauma, high functioning autism and substance use disorders, and in helping people through challenges related to relationship, academic, work, parenting, and life transitions. She would be honored to help guide you along that course.
